Coventry City vs Derby County: 13 Players Ruled Out Ahead of Good Friday Showdown
Coventry City and Derby County are set to clash in a high-stakes Championship encounter at the CBS Arena on Good Friday, but both sides will be significantly weakened with a combined 13 players either ruled out or doubtful for the fixture.

Coventry head into the match looking to maintain momentum after an impressive 3-0 victory over Swansea City, a result that helped them recover quickly from a setback against Southampton which had ended their six-game winning run. Goals from Brandon Thomas-Asante, Matt Grimes, and Tatsuhiro Sakamoto secured all three points in dominant fashion.
However, the Sky Blues are facing a growing injury list at a crucial stage of the season. Goalkeeper Oliver Dovin remains sidelined long-term with a serious knee injury, while defender Miguel Ángel Brau is unavailable due to a muscle problem. There are also concerns over Thomas-Asante, who is a doubt with a hamstring issue despite his recent goal, and fellow forward Haji Wright, who is struggling with a groin strain after missing the last match.

Derby County, meanwhile, arrive in strong form as they continue their push for a Championship play-off place. A narrow 1-0 win over Birmingham City, courtesy of a first-half strike from Rhian Brewster, kept the Rams firmly in contention. Sitting eighth in the table, Derby are just three points behind sixth-placed Southampton and could close the gap further depending on results.
But like their opponents, Derby are also battling a number of absences. Goalkeeper Jacob Widell Zetterström has been sidelined due to illness, while Josh Vickers is expected to miss several weeks with a groin injury. In defence, Max Johnston is edging closer to a return after a lengthy spell out, and Callum Elder continues his recovery from knee surgery.
With both teams missing key players across the pitch, Friday’s contest could ultimately be decided by squad depth and tactical flexibility. As the Championship season approaches its decisive phase, every point is vital—making this injury-hit encounter all the more unpredictable.
