Jamie Redknapp Reflects on Bournemouth Roots and Hails Club’s “Remarkable” Rise
Former England international Jamie Redknapp has paid an emotional tribute to his early days at AFC Bournemouth, praising the club’s incredible journey in modern football.
Speaking on the club’s new podcast The Wave, Redknapp revisited his formative years at Dean Court, where his connection with the Cherries first began long before his rise to stardom.
The former midfielder shared nostalgic stories of his childhood, revealing how his passion for the club went far beyond just playing. He recounted skipping school to be around the ground, helping out with everyday tasks such as shining players’ boots and even painting parts of the stadium.

“It was everything to me growing up,” Redknapp said. “Those moments shaped who I became. I just wanted to be around football, around Bournemouth—it gave me that foundation.”
Now a well-known pundit, Redknapp expressed immense pride in witnessing Bournemouth’s transformation over the years. From humble beginnings to establishing themselves in the Premier League, he described the club’s progress as “remarkable.”
“They’ve come such a long way,” he added. “To see where the club is today compared to back then—it’s incredible. The journey, the people, the belief—it’s something special.”
Redknapp’s reflections offer a powerful reminder of Bournemouth’s deep-rooted identity and the strong community spirit that has underpinned their rise through English football’s ranks.
His story not only highlights the club’s past but also celebrates its present, as the Cherries continue to build on their success at the highest level.
