Lampard Issues Coventry City Injury Update Ahead of Swansea Trip

Coventry City head coach Frank Lampard has provided an important injury update following his side’s weekend defeat to Southampton, with several key players facing late fitness checks ahead of Saturday’s long trip to Swansea City.

The Sky Blues suffered a 2–1 loss at home to Southampton, but the result was not the only concern for Lampard, who now faces uncertainty over multiple players as preparations begin for the upcoming Championship clash in South Wales.

Striker Haji Wright is the biggest worry after he was forced off with what appeared to be a groin issue during the match. The forward signaled discomfort to the bench shortly before missing a golden opportunity when his close-range header went straight at the goalkeeper.

Speaking after the game, Lampard confirmed Wright will undergo further checks.

“Haji’s got a bit of a sensation in his groin so we’ll have to check that out,” the Coventry boss explained, suggesting the striker will be assessed before a final decision is made about his availability.

There were also concerns during the match when both Ephron Mason-Clark and Frank Onyeka were caught in heavy challenges around the ankle area. Onyeka was substituted in the 77th minute and replaced by Victor Torp after appearing to struggle following the tackle.

However, Lampard eased fears by suggesting neither player appears to have suffered serious damage.

“Yeah, as far as I know,” he said when asked whether Mason-Clark and Onyeka were OK after the incidents.

There was at least some positive news for Coventry fans regarding defender Bobby Thomas. The centre-back has missed the club’s last three matches with a minor calf strain but is making good progress in recovery.

Lampard indicated Thomas could potentially return to the squad in time for the Swansea trip, which would provide a timely boost to Coventry’s defensive options.

Midfielder Jack Rudoni is also being monitored as the coaching staff carefully manage player fitness during a demanding stretch of fixtures.
