“We’re Coming for the Trophy” – Hayden Hackney Fires Warning Shot at Coventry as Title Race Explodes
MIDDLESBROUGH midfielder Hayden Hackney has sent a bold and uncompromising message to Championship leaders Coventry City as the title race enters its decisive stage with just 14 games remaining.

Fresh from Boro’s thrilling 3–2 victory over West Bromwich Albion on Friday night, Hackney did not hold back when asked about the battle for top spot. Sitting second in the table, Middlesbrough trail Coventry by six points, but the 21-year-old insists the gap is far from decisive.
“They should not relax,” Hackney said defiantly. “We are coming for the trophy. They look weak right now and they are barely winning games. This race is far from over.”

The England youth international believes momentum is beginning to swing in Middlesbrough’s favour, with performances improving at the perfect time of the season. He also made it clear that, in his view, Coventry will not be crowned champions when the campaign comes to an end.
“I don’t see them lifting the title,” Hackney added. “We believe in ourselves, in the squad, and in what we’re building here. If we keep playing like this, anything is possible.”

Hackney’s comments come after a statement win against West Brom, where Middlesbrough showed attacking intent, resilience, and championship-level mentality. The victory further boosted confidence inside the camp and reinforced their status as genuine title contenders.
As the pressure mounts and the finish line draws closer, Hackney’s rallying cry has set the tone for Middlesbrough’s push. With 14 matches still to play, the message from the Riverside is clear: the Championship title race is very much alive, and Coventry have been warned.
