The incident occurred with Sunderland leading 3–1, when cameras caught Xhaka—who was not named on the bench—exchanging angry words with West Ham fans seated close to the technical area. Match officials intervened as tensions escalated, prompting a short pause in play while stewards restored order.
West Ham coach Nuno did not hold back in his post-match assessment, publicly questioning Xhaka’s conduct and calling for disciplinary action.
