Swansea City coach Vítor Matos did not hide his frustration after his side were beaten 3–0 by Ipswich Town at Portman Road, launching a stinging attack on the home side’s pattern of play and the tactical approach of boss Kieran McKenna.

Despite the heavy defeat, Matos insisted his team were capable of more and claimed the nature of Ipswich’s style made the contest difficult to control.

“I don’t like their pattern of playing,” he said bluntly after the match. “That is why I rejected Ipswich’s offer when they came to hire me as their coach.”

The Portuguese coach suggested philosophical differences were behind his decision not to take the Ipswich job in the past, pointing to what he described as an overly physical and direct system.

“Too much foul,” Matos added. “We deserved to win today, but Ipswich made the game tense. It was kick and follow football. This kind of pattern always makes games end in a draw or defeat.”

Swansea struggled to cope with Ipswich’s intensity throughout the match, conceding three goals in what ultimately became a commanding performance from the home side. While Matos criticised the approach, Ipswich executed their game plan effectively, securing another vital three points in front of their supporters at Portman Road.
