A run of draws may not be the explosive goal-fest he predicted, but there is still plenty of optimism surrounding Bournemouth’s recent Premier League performances.
After predicting a high-scoring clash, the goalless stalemate against West Ham United proved to be the exact opposite of expectations.
“Maybe I should stick to boxing,” he joked while reflecting on the result.
The frustration didn’t stop there. Bournemouth followed that result with another draw against Sunderland AFC, though at least that match delivered a couple of goals before the Cherries were once again forced to settle for a point.
Their latest stalemate came against Brentford FC in a match that, by all accounts, could have produced several goals if finishing had been sharper.
One of the most painful moments fell to captain Marcus Tavernier, who was left stunned after striking the same post again in front of the Steve Fletcher Stand — a moment that summed up Bournemouth’s frustrating evening in front of goal.
Despite the lack of victories, the mood inside the camp remains positive. The Cherries currently sit ninth in the Premier League table, just four points shy of seventh place and comfortably past the important 40-point safety mark.
“Plenty of positives to take from the past few games,” he said. “Ninth in the Premier League, only four points off seventh, and a really positive performance against Brentford, a team we’ve struggled with in the past. We’re still in a great position.”
With a short break now giving players time to recharge, Bournemouth will soon turn their attention to an away trip against Burnley FC — a match where they are expected to be favourites to collect all three points.
But football hasn’t been the only highlight of the week.
Away from the pitch, the Bournemouth star revealed that music has taken over his social media feeds, particularly the work of Fred again… That interest reached a new level when he attended the final show of the producer’s tour on Friday night.
The concert featured some major surprises. Legendary electronic music pioneer Thomas Bangalter one half of the iconic duo Daft Punk joined the stage for a DJ set alongside Fred again.., sending the crowd into a frenzy.
There was also a special performance from Kano, the rapper behind the player’s entrance song “Hail,” who appeared on stage with the acclaimed jazz group Ezra Collective.
“It was awesome to see experts performing in their field,” he said.
The energy inside the venue reminded him of another unforgettable night — an Oasis concert the year before.
“Togetherness, belonging and everyone just being present in the moment,” he explained. “Both were very special occasions.”
To cap off the week, both Noel Gallagher and Fred again.. were celebrating after picking up honours at the Brit Awards.
For now, Bournemouth’s focus will soon return to football — but as he admits, sometimes the power of music offers the perfect reminder that there is more to life than the final score.
