Former defender Gareth McAuley has publicly backed a move for a “top player” from the Owls, suggesting that the current instability at Hillsborough presents a major opportunity for recruitment.
Sheffield Wednesday’s season has been defined by turmoil both on and off the pitch. The departure of owner Dejphon Chansiri in October, following the club’s slide into administration, triggered a downward spiral that ultimately led to relegation. Despite hopes of a takeover led by David Storch, uncertainty continues to loom with no deal yet finalised.
On the pitch, results have been nothing short of disastrous. Under Henrik Pedersen, Wednesday managed just one win in 43 Championship matches, with their fate sealed as early as February after a defeat to local rivals Sheffield United.
