Some good News: I’m unbelievably pleased
Jim Frevola Delighted as Bournemouth’s Vitality Stadium Expansion Receives Approval
AFC Bournemouth president Jim Frevola has expressed his delight after plans to expand the Vitality Stadium were officially approved, marking a significant milestone in the club’s long-term vision.
The ambitious redevelopment project, which will increase the stadium’s capacity to more than 20,000 seats, received the green light during a meeting of the eastern Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) planning committee.
The approval represents the culmination of years of work behind the scenes, with club officials, architects, planners, and local stakeholders collaborating to bring the project to fruition.
Reacting to the decision, Frevola could hardly contain his excitement.
“I’m unbelievably pleased,” he told the Daily Echo.
“This moment, we’ve been working on it for three and a half years since we’ve been involved in this football club.”
The stadium expansion is seen as a transformative step for Bournemouth, a club that has continued to punch above its weight in English football despite operating with one of the Premier League’s smallest stadiums.
Since the arrival of owner Bill Foley and his Black Knight Football Club group, the Cherries have made no secret of their ambition to establish themselves as a long-term Premier League force.

Increasing the capacity of the Vitality Stadium has been a central part of that strategy, allowing more supporters to attend matches while also boosting the club’s commercial revenues.
The redevelopment will modernize facilities and significantly increase the matchday experience for fans. Once completed, the expanded venue will more closely reflect Bournemouth’s growing stature in the Premier League and provide a platform for future growth both on and off the pitch.
For supporters, the approval is a landmark moment. The Vitality Stadium has been home to some of the club’s greatest achievements, including multiple promotions and memorable Premier League campaigns. The expansion ensures the ground can continue to serve as the heart of the club while accommodating a larger fanbase.
Club executives have consistently stressed the importance of balancing ambition with sustainability, and the project is expected to play a key role in Bournemouth’s long-term development plans.
With planning approval now secured, attention will turn to the next phase of the project, including construction timelines and implementation plans. While challenges remain before the expanded stadium becomes a reality, the decision marks a major victory for the club’s ownership group and supporters alike.
For Frevola and everyone connected with AFC Bournemouth, the approval represents far more than a construction project—it is a symbol of the progress the club has made and the ambitions it continues to pursue.
After three and a half years of planning and preparation, Bournemouth can finally begin looking forward to a bigger future at the Vitality Stadium.
