Newcastle United Star Sandro Tonali Attracts Premier League Transfer Battle After Requesting Move
A major transfer saga is unfolding around Sandro Tonali, with multiple Premier League giants monitoring the situation after the midfielder reportedly handed in a transfer request, sparking fresh uncertainty over his future at Newcastle United.
According to reports, Tonali’s request has put a planned long-term stay in England on hold, with negotiations now effectively paused as clubs prepare to test Newcastle’s resolve in the upcoming window.
Despite the uncertainty, a move to Newcastle was previously still considered “on track,” but developments over recent days have shifted momentum elsewhere, opening the door for rival clubs to enter the race.
Tottenham Hotspur are believed to be at the forefront of the chase, with sources suggesting the North London club view Tonali as a key figure in their long-term rebuild.
Reports indicate Tottenham are working internally to structure a deal that would make the Italian midfielder the cornerstone of their project. A potential reunion is also on the cards, as Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi is understood to be a strong advocate for bringing Tonali to North London.
De Zerbi is said to be particularly eager to reunite with his compatriot, viewing him as a perfect fit for his tactical system.
The competition for Tonali’s signature is intensifying. Transfer journalist Gianluca Moretto claims both Manchester City and Manchester United have shown interest in the midfielder.
Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano reported last week that Arsenal have also resumed talks regarding a potential move for the former AC Milan star, adding another heavyweight to the growing list of suitors.
Tonali is widely seen as one of Europe’s most complete midfielders, combining defensive discipline with technical quality and passing range. His profile has made him an attractive target for several clubs looking to strengthen their midfield core ahead of the new season.
Newcastle are now expected to face mounting pressure as interest intensifies from multiple Premier League rivals. While no final decision has been made, the coming weeks are likely to be decisive in determining whether Tonali stays at St James’ Park or becomes one of the summer’s biggest transfers.
For now, the situation remains fluid but Tottenham’s determination, combined with elite competition from Manchester and London rivals, has turned this into one of the standout transfer stories of the window.
