Leeds United Revive Talks for Champions League Midfielder as Transfer Ambitions Intensify
Leeds United have reportedly reignited discussions over a move for experienced midfielder Hidemasa Morita as Daniel Farke continues to strengthen his squad ahead of the new Premier League campaign.
The Whites have already made significant progress in their pursuit of Southampton star Shea Charles, but that has not stopped the club from exploring additional midfield reinforcements as they prepare for life back in the top flight.
Morita, who currently plays for Sporting Lisbon, is expected to become a free agent at the end of the month when his contract expires.

The Japanese international has attracted interest from several clubs across Europe, but Leeds remain firmly in the race after reopening talks that had previously gone quiet.

Leeds had held discussions with Morita’s representatives earlier this summer and were considered serious contenders for his signature. However, the club temporarily placed the move on hold while assessing other priorities in the transfer market.
With negotiations for Charles continuing to move forward, Leeds have now returned to the Morita deal as they look to add both quality and depth to their midfield department. The 30-year-old brings valuable Champions League experience from his time with Sporting Lisbon and is viewed as a player capable of making an immediate impact at Elland Road.
The renewed interest in Morita comes alongside Leeds’ ambitious pursuit of Borussia Dortmund attacking midfielder Julian Brandt. The German international is regarded as one of the club’s dream targets this summer, with his creativity, leadership and top-level European experience making him an attractive option for Farke.
Leeds’ recruitment team are believed to be exploring multiple avenues simultaneously as they seek to build a squad capable of competing comfortably in the Premier League. While securing Charles remains a key objective, the club’s willingness to continue discussions with Morita highlights their determination to strengthen the midfield with proven quality.
Should Leeds succeed in landing both Charles and Morita, it would represent a major statement of intent from the Yorkshire club as they prepare for a challenging season against England’s elite
