Middlesbrough on Alert as Arsenal’s Morgan Rogers Interest Could Hand Steve Gibson Major Financial Boost

Middlesbrough owner Steve Gibson will be keeping a close eye on Arsenal’s reported pursuit of Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers, with any potential transfer capable of delivering a significant financial windfall to the Championship club.

Boro may have suffered heartbreak in last season’s Championship play-off final, but events away from the Riverside Stadium could still provide the club with a welcome boost before the summer transfer window closes.

Kim Hellberg’s side impressed throughout much of the campaign with an attractive, attacking style of football that earned praise across the Championship. However, a dramatic dip in form saw Middlesbrough win just two of their final 10 league matches, slipping from the automatic promotion places into the play-offs.

Following Southampton’s expulsion from the play-offs, Boro were handed a place in the final against Hull City. Despite their efforts, Oli McBurnie’s late winner condemned Middlesbrough to a painful defeat, meaning another season in England’s second tier and the loss of an estimated £180–220 million Premier League financial reward.

Despite that disappointment, there remains plenty of optimism surrounding the club. Hellberg has established a clear identity, supporters are firmly behind his long-term project, and Middlesbrough could now receive an unexpected financial injection thanks to one of their former stars.

Morgan Rogers has continued his rapid rise since leaving the Riverside for Aston Villa, becoming one of the Premier League’s standout young attacking talents. His performances have reportedly attracted interest from Arsenal, who are believed to be exploring attacking reinforcements ahead of the new campaign.

Any big-money move for Rogers could prove extremely valuable for Middlesbrough if the club negotiated a sell-on clause when they agreed his transfer to Aston Villa. Should Arsenal submit a substantial offer and Villa decide to cash in, Boro would stand to receive a significant percentage of the transfer fee.

Such a windfall would strengthen Steve Gibson’s position in the transfer market, giving Middlesbrough additional resources to back Hellberg with new signings as they prepare for another promotion push.

While the pain of missing out on Premier League football remains fresh, a lucrative Morgan Rogers transfer could soften the financial blow and provide Boro with fresh momentum heading into the new Championship season.

For Gibson and everyone connected with Middlesbrough, Arsenal’s pursuit of the former Riverside favourite is now a story worth watching very closely.
