Leeds United Plot £30M Move for Manchester City Goalkeeper James Trafford as They Search for Their New Number One
Leeds United are reportedly preparing a major summer move for Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford, with the newly promoted Premier League side said to be considering a £30 million swoop for the highly-rated England international.
The 23-year-old goalkeeper has found opportunities at the Etihad Stadium difficult to come by, leaving questions over his long-term future despite his huge potential and impressive reputation.
Trafford, who rose to prominence after starring during his time at Burnley Football Club and earning international recognition, is viewed as a player with the ability to become a top-level Premier League goalkeeper if given regular first-team football.
Leeds are believed to be searching for a long-term solution between the posts and reportedly see Trafford as the ideal candidate to lead their defensive rebuild. The club’s interest comes as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of another challenging Premier League campaign.
A potential £30 million deal would represent a significant investment, but Leeds officials are said to believe Trafford’s age, talent and homegrown status make him a valuable asset for the future.
Manchester City’s stance could prove crucial, with the Premier League champions needing to decide whether to keep the goalkeeper as part of their plans or allow him to leave in search of consistent playing time.
Fans have already reacted to the speculation, with many Leeds supporters excited by the possibility of bringing in a young English goalkeeper capable of becoming a future star.
If the deal progresses, Trafford could make the move from a frustrating spell on the sidelines to becoming the main man at Elland Road a chance to prove he belongs at the highest level.
