Burnley Urged to Sign Leeds United Striker Joel Piroe if Zian Flemming Departs
Burnley have been tipped to make a move for Leeds United striker Joel Piroe should star forward Zian Flemming leave Turf Moor this summer, as the Clarets prepare for life back in the Championship.
After suffering relegation from the Premier League, Burnley face a crucial rebuilding period under new head coach Nicky Hayen, who has arrived with the task of guiding the club back to the top flight at the first attempt.
The Clarets endured a disappointing campaign, collecting just 22 points from 38 league matches to finish 19th. With Scott Parker departing before the end of the season and an unsuccessful attempt to lure Wales boss Craig Bellamy, Burnley eventually turned to Hayen, the former Club Brugge manager who won the Belgian Pro League and guided the club to the Europa League Round of 16.
One of Hayen’s biggest challenges could be replacing Zian Flemming if the Dutchman completes a move away from Turf Moor. Brentford are reportedly showing serious interest in the 27-year-old after he enjoyed an impressive debut Premier League campaign, scoring 11 goals in 29 appearances.
Should Flemming depart, Burnley fan pundits believe Leeds United striker Joel Piroe would be the ideal replacement.
Piroe enjoyed a prolific season with Leeds, proving once again that he is one of the Championship’s most reliable goalscorers. His experience, finishing ability and consistency at second-tier level have led many to describe him as a “proven” option capable of spearheading another promotion push.
Supporters believe Burnley would need an attacker with a proven record in the Championship rather than taking a gamble on an untested forward, and Piroe fits that profile perfectly.
Whether Leeds would be willing to sell the Dutch striker remains to be seen, particularly if they view him as an important part of their own plans. However, Burnley could be forced into the market if Flemming’s expected exit materialises.
With the transfer window gathering pace, Burnley are expected to monitor attacking options closely as Hayen begins shaping a squad capable of mounting an immediate return to the Premier League.
