Coventry City Set for Major Transfer Coup as Frank Lampard Targets Chelsea’s Marc Guiu

Coventry City are reportedly plotting one of the most ambitious signings in the club’s recent history, with manager Frank Lampard keen to reunite with Chelsea striker Marc Guiu ahead of the new Premier League season.

The Sky Blues have already shown their intent in the transfer market following their return to the top flight, and the pursuit of the talented Spanish forward would represent another major statement of ambition from the club.

Guiu, 20, joined Chelsea from Barcelona in 2024 after emerging as one of Spain’s brightest young attacking prospects. However, despite arriving at Stamford Bridge with high expectations, the striker has struggled to establish himself in Chelsea’s first-team plans due to fierce competition for places.

With regular football now a priority for the youngster’s development, Coventry have emerged as serious contenders for his signature.

According to CoventryLive, Lampard is determined to bring the Spanish forward to the CBS Arena, believing he could become a key figure in Coventry’s attack.

A report from the outlet stated:

“Frank knows Marc well from his time at Chelsea and believes he has the quality and potential to thrive in a more central role. Coventry see this as a major coup if they can get it done.”

Lampard’s relationship with the player is believed to be a significant factor in Coventry’s interest. Having worked within Chelsea’s setup, the former Blues boss is familiar with Guiu’s qualities, work ethic and long-term potential, making him one of the manager’s priority targets this summer.

The Coventry boss is thought to view Guiu as a striker capable of leading the line in the Premier League while continuing his development with consistent first-team football—something that has been difficult to find at Chelsea.

Reports suggest Chelsea are prepared to consider offers in the region of £22 million to £25 million for a permanent transfer. However, discussions are also believed to include the possibility of a loan move with an option to buy, an arrangement that could prove more financially attractive for Coventry while giving Chelsea additional flexibility.

Such a deal would allow the Sky Blues to secure one of Europe’s highly-rated young forwards without immediately committing to a sizeable transfer fee.

Guiu came through Barcelona’s famous La Masia academy before making headlines with his first-team debut, quickly earning a reputation as a composed finisher with excellent movement inside the penalty area. Chelsea moved swiftly to secure his services in 2024, seeing him as part of the club’s long-term future.

Despite flashes of his ability, opportunities have been limited at Stamford Bridge, leading to speculation that a move away could be the best solution for all parties.

For Coventry, landing a player of Guiu’s calibre would underline the club’s growing ambition under Lampard. Following promotion to the Premier League, the Sky Blues are eager to strengthen every area of the squad as they prepare for the challenge of competing against England’s elite clubs.

Adding a young striker with experience at both Barcelona and Chelsea would not only boost Coventry’s attacking options but also send a clear message that the club intends to establish itself in the Premier League rather than simply fight relegation.

Negotiations are understood to be at an early stage, and while no agreement has yet been reached, Coventry remain hopeful that Lampard’s relationship with the player and the promise of regular first-team football could prove decisive.

If the move is completed, Marc Guiu would become one of the most eye-catching signings in Coventry City’s modern history and another significant step in Frank Lampard’s ambitious rebuild at the CBS Arena.
