Van Dijk Praises Bournemouth Star Jiménez After Liverpool’s Shock Defeat
Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk was full of praise for Bournemouth’s Alex Jiménez after the Reds suffered a surprise 3–2 defeat at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday.
Despite Liverpool entering the contest as clear favourites, Andoni Iraola’s side delivered a spirited performance to claim all three points, leaving the visitors frustrated but respectful in defeat. Speaking to the media after the match, Van Dijk acknowledged Bournemouth’s quality and admitted the Cherries deserved their victory on the day.

“AFC Bournemouth are below us in terms of expectations, but they played very well and they deserve the three points,” the Dutch defender said. “They showed intensity, bravery and took their chances.”
One player who particularly caught Van Dijk’s eye was young winger Alex Jiménez, who produced a standout display and capped it with a fine goal.
️ Van Dijk on Jiménez:

“He’s definitely a very talented player. He has played in different positions. I like his directness, the way he drives forward with the ball, carries it forward, his technical ability and his decision-making.”
Jiménez, currently on loan from AC Milan, caused Liverpool persistent problems with his pace and confidence in one-on-one situations, drawing praise from both fans and pundits alike.

Van Dijk went a step further by suggesting Liverpool should consider a move for the youngster in the future.
“He’s a brilliant young player,” Van Dijk added. “I would urge our coach to look at him when his loan spell ends.”
The result marked a disappointing afternoon for Liverpool, but it also highlighted the rise of Jiménez, whose performance against one of Europe’s top defenders underlined his growing reputation as one of the most exciting young talents in the league.
