The Rams produced a spirited performance against Kieran McKenna’s promotion-chasing side, matching one of the league’s strongest teams for long periods in an entertaining and competitive encounter.
After Derby battled their way back into the game with a deserved equaliser, Ipswich’s quality in depth ultimately proved decisive. A powerful header from Leif Davis, created by substitute Kasey McAteer’s cross, restored the visitors’ lead and helped Ipswich secure all three points.
The closing stages added further drama when Travis was sent off for a second yellow card, but Ipswich held firm to see out the victory.

Speaking after the match, Eustace focused on the positives from his team’s display.
“I thought it was an excellent game,” he said. “It was two strong teams going toe to toe, and it was really exciting for everyone watching.”
The Derby boss believes the performance shows clear progress from his squad as they continue to develop this season.
“I was very proud of the group’s effort. You can see how we’re building and growing as a team,” Eustace explained. “To come up against what is probably the best team in the league, with the strongest squad, and compete with them the way we did was really encouraging.”
Derby appeared to have momentum after levelling the score, with Eustace admitting his side sensed an opportunity to go on and win the game.

“We got a deserved equaliser and at that point felt we could maybe go on and win it,” he added. “They then made a number of positive substitutions. When you look at their bench, that’s why they’re top of the table — they’ve got outstanding depth.”
Despite the disappointment of defeat, Eustace was pleased with his team’s resilience until the final whistle.
“It definitely made a difference,” he concluded, “but the way we kept going right to the end was really pleasing.”
Derby will now look to build on the performance in their next fixture, while Ipswich continue to strengthen their push at the top of the table.
