Sheffield Wednesday and Huddersfield Town are reportedly set to go head-to-head in the race to sign promising Leeds United youngster Harry Gray, as both Yorkshire clubs continue their preparations for what is expected to be a fiercely competitive League One campaign.

The two rivals are aiming for an immediate push towards promotion next season and appear ready to extend their rivalry beyond the pitch by targeting the same transfer prospect.

Wednesday endured a disastrous 2025/26 season that was heavily impacted by an 18-point deduction, ultimately leading to relegation from the Championship. However, optimism has returned to Hillsborough following the takeover by American businessman David Storch, who completed his purchase of the club shortly before the final game of the season and brought an end to a difficult period of administration.

Meanwhile, Huddersfield Town are also rebuilding with ambitions of securing a return to the Championship and have been active in identifying young talent capable of making an impact in League One.

According to reports, both clubs are now leading the chase for Leeds United forward Harry Gray. The highly-rated youngster has attracted significant attention thanks to his performances within Leeds’ academy setup and is viewed as one of the brightest prospects emerging from Elland Road.

A move away from Leeds, potentially on loan or through another arrangement, could provide Gray with valuable first-team opportunities. With competition for places expected to remain intense at Elland Road following Leeds’ recent success, regular senior football elsewhere may be viewed as the ideal next step in his development.

For Sheffield Wednesday, securing Gray would represent another statement of intent under the club’s new ownership. The Owls are expected to be among the promotion contenders and are keen to assemble a squad capable of bouncing straight back to the Championship.

Huddersfield, however, are unlikely to allow their rivals a free run at the talented attacker. Town’s project and the prospect of consistent playing time could prove equally attractive to the youngster as they look to strengthen their own promotion credentials.

The battle for Harry Gray’s signature is shaping up to be one of the more intriguing transfer stories involving Yorkshire clubs this summer. While no final decision has been made, both Sheffield Wednesday and Huddersfield Town appear determined to win the race for the Leeds United prospect as they continue building squads capable of challenging at the top end of League One next season.
