WORLD CUP STRIKER BAMBA DIENG CLOSE TO JOIN SUNDERLAND AS RÉGIS LE BRIS TARGETS MAYENDA REPLACEMENT

Sunderland are reportedly closing in on the signing of Senegal international Bamba Dieng as head coach Régis Le Bris looks to strengthen his attacking options ahead of the new Premier League season.

The Black Cats have been linked with several forwards during the summer transfer window, but Dieng has now emerged as one of the club’s leading targets. The 25-year-old striker is currently available as a free agent after leaving French side Lorient at the end of last season, making him an attractive option for clubs seeking proven quality without paying a transfer fee.

Le Bris is believed to be keen on adding another experienced striker to his squad following growing uncertainty surrounding Eliezer Mayenda’s future. The Sunderland boss wants greater competition in attack and sees Dieng’s pace, physicality and experience at the highest level as qualities that could strengthen his frontline.

Dieng has enjoyed spells with Marseille and Lorient in Ligue 1 and has also represented Senegal on the international stage, including at the FIFA World Cup. His performances for both club and country have earned him a reputation as a dangerous forward capable of playing through the middle or in wider attacking positions.

Interest in Dieng has been strong throughout the summer. Several English clubs, including Derby County and Burnley, were credited with monitoring the striker after he became a free agent. Turkish side Amed SK also appeared to be leading the race for his signature at one stage, while Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Shabab were linked with a move before negotiations reportedly stalled.

However, Sunderland are now believed to have moved quickly in an effort to bring the forward to the Stadium of Light. Club officials are understood to have stepped up discussions in recent days, with optimism growing that an agreement can be reached.

For Le Bris, signing a player with Dieng’s international pedigree would represent another statement of intent as Sunderland prepare for life back in the Premier League. The French coach has already overseen several important additions this summer and remains determined to build a squad capable of competing against England’s top clubs.

Supporters have reacted positively to the reports, with many believing the Senegalese striker would add much-needed depth, pace and finishing ability to Sunderland’s attack. His experience on the biggest stage in world football is also viewed as a valuable asset for a squad returning to the Premier League.

While no official announcement has been made, confidence is growing that Sunderland could soon secure the signing of Bamba Dieng. If the move is completed, the World Cup striker would become another significant addition to Régis Le Bris’ rebuilding project as the Black Cats continue their preparations for the new campaign.
